Today was the last day in Portland and we could not have asked for it to end on a better note!  We got picked up by a limo right at 9:00 that was provided by Chess for Success.  It was a real treat and made the day an absolute breeze going from place to place.  Our driver Travis was incredibly helpful and always got us right where we needed to go.  The first stop was the interview with KATU TV for their program AM Northwest.  Robert and Phiona taped a great segment; the airing date has not yet been decided, but once we know we will be sure to share so that you can watch too!

After taping we were picked back up and headed downtown to the Hilton, for the Game Changer Luncheon with Chess for Success.  Julie, Jessica, and Richard are amazing people to work with and their planner for the event, Pam was phenomenal.  It was a wonderful event that ran so smoothly and they treated Robert and Phiona like a real King and Queen.  Everyone who attended was given a copy of Queen of Katwe and Robert and Phiona were able to sign copies and share a few minutes with majority of the guests.  During the luncheon, Robert and Phiona were interviewed including a small Q&A with the audience.  They did a great job as always.  Chess for Success, in addition to being great hosts, gave a very generous donation to the Chess Ministry which will make a huge impact on the new academy being built!  Thank you Chess for Success for everything!!

While downtown we tried the very well-known “Tram” this takes you from the heart of downtown up above the city to Oregon State Research Hospital.  The the views were incredible, you could see forever.  When we got to the hospital, April, Don’s wife made a lot of phone calls and was able to arrange a small tour for Robert and Phiona.  Phiona hopes to one day become a pediatrician so this was a great break in our day for her.  She was able to see a little bit of a teaching hospital here in the US and she even stopped by the admissions office for a quick chat.

The day wound down with a nice dessert and a few friends at The Brennemans, great way to end the time in Portland.

The next stop is Washington!  The day starts early again, with a drive to Tacoma, WA to visit a school with the American Chess Foundation.  After the school visit, the drive continues to Seattle where they will relax in preparation for Thursday, when they will be sharing with The Gates Foundation.
